Lost World Caverns

Cave Tours in West Virginia

Not Your Average Cave Tour

About the Cave

Descend 120 feet below the Earth’s surface into a vast wonderland of stalactites and stalagmites. Lost World Caverns, discovered in 1942, is a truly magical place for explorers of all ages. It takes approximately 45 minutes to walk through. We offer self-guided tours so you can take your time to explore the cavern at your own pace; just remember to stay on the trail. Information signs will provide you with details about the many different formations as you explore the half-mile loop. No matter the temperature on the outside, the cave always remains a constant 52 degrees. A light jacket and good shoes are recommended.

Best Caving Experience Around

Best wild caving experience around. I've done many, but this one is top notch. Professional and safe, yet challenging and exciting. You won't fine a commercial cave tour it's equal. Far better than Mammoth cave, this is the one to do. Great guides, family-run, all equipment included, as well as snacks on the trip, home-cooked lunch afterwards, and even emailed pics from the trip all included. If you're up for some adventure (and don't mind getting a little dirty in the dark) then this is the tour for you.

Fun and interesting!

This is one of the few caves in the United States that you can tour without a guide. Stroll through at your own pace. Take a camera. I took a number of great photos. If you are interested in rocks, minerals, and fossils, the gift shop has drawer- fulls of nice specimens. There is a picnic area outside with tables, as well. The cave is easy to find and only three or four minutes from the interstate.

Perfect day trip!

My boys (9 & 6) have been twice and have enjoyed it both times. The self-guided tour is pretty cool. We made a day of it by visiting downtown Lewisburg and then doing the cave. Even at a slow pace, we were done in under an hour. The little shop is nice and the owners/staff are very nice. Bring a long sleeved shirt it is in the 50's in the cave.

Amazing & Magical Tour

After stopping at this cavern we had the delight of our life. We received instructions about the cavern, handed a flashlight, (just in case), and began our descent. Signs everywhere gave you the basics of cave creation, with large and/or beautiful designs created by nature. Ten minutes later, brief flashes became complete darkness. Within minutes, the manager came to tell us that the power was out and, if we'd like, we could leave and offered us a refund, but we could continue exploring as long as we'd like (until closing). We stayed and explored. I recommend doing this more often; Explore in the dark. How exciting!

Love this Place

We loved this place! Prices were reasonable too! We did a self-guided tour and the girl at the desk was very friendly and helpful! The caverns were very nice with descriptions by the formations, my kids did the rock mining, and we shopped in the gift shop. We would definitely go back if ever in this area.

Incredible

My boyfriend and I did the wild cave tour with Steve and it was INCREDIBLE. Steve was an amazing guide and paid great attention to our individual needs, our safety, provided great conversation and made the trip well worth it. The caving itself was a blast. The photos Steve took were great. I cannot recommend this tour more!
